Help Chef Mary build her dream kitchen -La Cocina
It has been a dream of mine to open a kitchen on the island for catering, private dinners and community events. I am calling it “La Cocina” which simply means, the Kitchen. I need the help of my local community to make this dream come true. With your assistance we can build a space that people will come to enjoy homemade local dishes, build relationships with fellow diners and enjoy unique, world class food.
I need $30,000 to get La Cocina completely outfitted. This includes big stuff like a convection oven down to little stuff like paint and health department permits. Every single dollar that is given will be put to good use to get the space operational, beautiful and able to meet the needs of the island community. For my donors, you will be called the “Primeros” which means first. You will have unique access to our launch party, special events and ticketed dinners before the general public. If we don’t reach our full goal, every donation will get me closer to getting operational and cooking out of my own kitchen.
This project is very near and dear to me. I am a 5th generation Galvestonian and I have always wanted a space on the island to cook beautiful gulf seafood and southern classics with a Latin flair. I will be able to host events in conjunction with the Galveston’s Own Farmers Market, it will be a space for Galveston College Culinary Students to come intern, I will be able to host book signings and art events. I have lived in Galveston County for my entire life and I am blessed to have helped the community in the wakes of some of our darkest times. Helping the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the shooting at Santa Fe High School and the Government Shutdown have molded my sense of community even more. Asking for help is not something I am good at, but I could use a little fairy dust to help me get this dream into reality.
With any small business there are risks. For the past 7 years I have been building my client base and brand. My goal is to be a million-dollar catering company in 5 years. This is the first step in order to make that happen. I have the chef skills and hug skills and people skills; I just need a couple dollars to get this space turned into perfection.
I know it’s not in everyone’s budget to help, but if you can please share this campaign, volunteer if I have a workday to come paint walls, clean dishes, organize shelves… a little sweat equity goes a long way. I really appreciate every person who takes the time to consider this.
